day 1

HELLO EVERYONE! Welcome to SingPoWriMo 2020. It is my pleasure to bring you the first prompt of this season and here it is:

The Crime Watch Prompt

Hello and welcome to this special episode of “We Can’t Afford Actual Actors”.

There are actions that are outlawed for good reason but also outlawed acts that are ???. Write a poem inspired by a criminal act as defined by the laws of any country.

#TheLawyerActBonus: Use legal jargon in your poem.
#LegallyBlondeBonus: Avoid using any legal jargon in your poem.

‐-----
Refugees in their own country
they engage in criminal acts
surreptitiously.
Some buy wilted cabbage
braving the lathi,
refusing to starve silently.
Others take to the road
walking miles and miles
under the relentless sun
babies and bags in tow,
to shuttered borders

Some turn away
onto oncoming trucks
and end their wayward attempt
to survive poverty
in the time of Covid-19.

braving the lathi,
refusing to starve silently.
Others walk miles and miles
under the relentless sun
heaving babies and bags
only to find borders shut.
A few turn away,
straight onto oncoming trucks
and end their attempt
to survive poverty.

Walking miles for nights and days
To have borders closed in your face
