like the colleague rushing out importantly, tissue in hand
he pauses a second to show me a tiny green thing curled up.
a caterpillar he says, almost apologetically-it could been a green worm.
he was going to release it in the shrubs outside the office
he could have crushed it, squished it got back to his emails and meetings
but he picked it up, and chose to escort it to safety
he was rushing too
maybe he was squeamish
maybe he was late for an appointment
still he did it
he reminded me of the line
when we can choose to be anything in this world
let's choose to be kind.
