masks are usually to hide a part of the face
some have masks permanently painted
like the masked pitta and lapwing
and the racoon
some are worn for allure and mystery
like juliet and her romeo
at the capulet's ball
some wear full face cover,
as part of job requirements
like the bank robber and the astronaut
the compartmentalisation of the face is not new
poems have been written just about the arch of the eyebrow and depth of the iris
the eyes have always been valued in contributing to our look
but in the last two years
new wonders have been revealed
the nose, lips and chin
these matter too
I've not recognised close friends
with masks on
and so a new world awaits
especially the toddlers,
when may have come to think
of the nose and mouth as private parts
only to b revealed at home
a new and scary world awaits
masks are off and faces in full reveal!
we know the eye has always distinguished us
who knew our noses and mouths add to our face shape too?
