At one and a half,

toddling with baby fat 

spilling out in Michellin tyres,

noo noo was noodles,

lala was rice, and

jigijiga meant you were happy. 

As a pre-schooler,

your baby fat already melting away 

with your insistence on ohnwearinf long pants always, 

when you dug your toes 

hard into me in the middle of the night 

it meant you were cold, 

I covered you with a blanket 

and you stopped.

Now you are all limbs sticking out every which way and sometimes you scream 

or tears well in your eyes

at what seem like

insignificant things to me,

but to you they matter.
